Like some sort of overgrown wizard, Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel has enchanted members of the media with his beard on media day. Keisel is far from humble about the facial hair; he told one reporter “I truly believe I have the greatest beard of all time.”
Oh, the things we discover in the lead-up to the Super Bowl! In addition to finding out that Keisel thinks his beard is the tops, we learn from CNN that he’s thinking about releasing his own line of beard-grooming products.
“The beard is powerful,” Keisel told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (in an article titled “Keisel: Beard is magical, powerful, magnificent“). “It has magical powers. Hopefully, it’ll create some magic on Super Bowl Sunday.”
Meanwhile, the only thing Sporting News’ Matt Hayes could muster was “The beard. For the love of God, the beard.”
According to USA Today, it’s not all good. Keisel apparently has to overcome certain logistical issues related to the beard (like strapping his helmet through a forest of hair), but all of them, in his words, are “overcome-able.”
Here are some photos of Keisel’s majestic beard from media day. I wouldn’t recommend looking directly at it, though: so much magic is hard to take in all at once.
