Bucs Inexplicably Fire Lovie Smith After Winston’s First Year
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced Wednesday that they fired head coach Lovie Smith after a 6-10 season, which was a 200-percent improvement on last year’s 2-14 effort.
Lovie Smith actually had Tampa looking respectable this season, so clearly it was time for the Bucs to fire him.

Considering there were no rumors of his dismissal or the fact that the team had shown major steps in his second season, this move is a complete surprise to Buccaneers fans.
“After careful consideration, we informed Lovie that we have decided to make a change. I want to thank Lovie for his hard work and dedication to the Buccaneers during his time here. This decision was difficult on a variety of levels. I am disappointed that we were not more successful these past few seasons, but we are committed to doing what is necessary to give our fans the winning team they deserve. As we move forward, General Manager Jason Licht will oversee the process for finding our next head coach.” – Buccaneers Co-Chairman Joel Glazer
Have no inside information but wonder if Lovie Smith was asked to make changes to his coaching staff and he balked. Bucs were bad on D.

I've covered the Bucs since 2007. Gruden, Morris, Schiano and now Smith fired since. Five head coaches and three GMs in less than a decade.

Not only are some of the fans and media members puzzled by this move, but so are some of the Bucs' best players.
This is stupid, we can't even have a consistent coach, 3 coaches in 5 yrs

Former Bucs GM Mark Dominik believes offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter will be named Tampa Bay's new head coach.
With Lovie Smith fired I would expect Dirk Koetter to be named head coach within the week. They still will interview a few other candidates.

Considering Smith didn't have an offensive coordinator last year because of things outside of his control, and he didn't have an offensive line because of MRSA and bad play, it's tough to think that the OC will replace him after a successful 2015 offensive season.
