Canadian Football Player Commits A “Leon Lett”
The opening play of the second half in the Hamilton-Winnipeg CFL game Friday night gave viewers flashbacks to Super Bowl XXVII.
This time, it was Hamilton receiver Chris Williams in the role of Leon Lett, the Cowboys defensive tackle who missed out on a touchdown when he eased up upon nearing the end zone, allowing pursuer Don Beebe to catch up and strip the ball away (Winnipeg linebacker Joe Lobendahn played Beebe's role this time around). The result was the same -- a touchback and change of possession instead of a touchdown.
The game was tied 17-17 at the time, making the lost TD a literal game-changer.
