Jadeveon Clowney Just Made It Almost Impossible For The Texans To Take Johnny Manziel
The Texans need a quarterback -- this much we know is true. Johnny Manziel is a good quarterback, from Texas, who wants to be a Texan -- all also true.
But South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney just ran an official 4.53-second 40-yard-dash at the NFL Combine. He was faster than any defensive end, tight end and, yes, quarterback who ran. It's a time that's blowing people away.
Here's Clowney's run superimposed over Manziel's. See the difference?
By the way, Clowney's not just faster than Manziel. He's faster than two of the fastest quarterbacks already in the league, Colin Kaepernick and Cam Newton:
What good is having a fast quarterback when Jadeveon Clowney can run him down? Of course, running in a straight line isn't the only part of being a football player. But the idea of pairing a FREAK like Clowney on the other side of J.J. Watt is absolutely mouth-watering.
Sure, Manziel could fall to the Jaguars and the Texans would have to face him twice a year for the foreseeable future -- but Clowney is looking more and more like a "can't miss" prospect, and when you've got a high draft pick, you value "can't miss" over "upside" unless you want Blaine Gabbert on your hands.
The Texans do need a QB, and may still take Manziel with the first pick. But don't say we -- or rather, Clowney himself -- didn't warn you.
