It Sounds Like Braylon Edwards Took Part In That Club Scuffle After All
Last we heard of Braylon Edwards, a couple friends of his were involved a fight at a Michigan club, on the same night Edwards' Twitter just happened to get "hacked" with tweets about a fight. While the "my Twitter was hacked" claim looked like nothing more than a lame excuse used by so many before him, it didn't appear Edwards himself was in any trouble: initial reports only mentioned "people in his entourage" being involved in the fighting, not Edwards personally.
That account, though, started changing over the last couple days. SB Nation Arizona, citing "two sources who were present that night," this morning said that Edwards himself is "believed to have...started" the fracas. According to the report, the altercation originated between Edwards' group and a different group from Detroit. Then things calmed down, until...
According to both sources, [Edwards] mistook a bus boy only identified as "Dave" for a bouncer and charged into the kitchen after him. Edwards reportedly tackled Dave (described as a big guy who looks like a linebacker) and the two exchanged blows before they were separated.
While Edwards and Dave were fighting, two of Edwards' cousins rushed into the kitchen. One produced a knife that he had been carrying and stabbed a bouncer in his back and his hand. The other grabbed a fork and stabbed a different bouncer in his neck and his head. These two cousins were arrested by police that night.
This comes on the heels of a Detroit Free Press story from yesterday which noted that the bar where this all took place said in a statement that "Braylon Edwards was present and involved" in the fight. Making this all the crazier, SB Nation's report says that ESPN analyst Jalen Rose was part of Edwards' group, although from the sound of it, he tried to hold Edwards back from fighting.
Whether or not Edwards actually faces any assault charges as more information comes out (as SB Nation suggested he may), this is not exactly the type of story you want to break as you're trying to catch on with an NFL team. Edwards, of course, is a free agent, and both the 49ers and Cardinals are reported potential landing spots.
Last night, he reportedly met with the Niners, and even Rex Ryan said the Jets would take Edwards back for the right price (Edwards, of course, might have a different idea of the right price). So even though current issues might not have an impact on Edwards' NFL employment, the reports, if true, are enough for some to question what exactly Edwards was thinking...and enough for us to question, no matter where Edwards ends up, whether his tenure there will come with some unwanted off-field newsmaking.
