Doug Martin: Trick or Treat?
As the fantasy season slowly reaches its midpoint, owners are scrambling to make last minute decisions that will heavily implicate their playoff runs. One such decision is whether or not to continue to stash Doug Martin, or to scour the waiver wire for additional help that can step in immediately. Martin’s original projection, in Dr. Lalaji’s video below has the back returning shortly. Which sounds crazy since we assumed he would magically appear on the IR.
So pretend I have a friend and a friend has Doug Martin sitting on his bench and has no idea if he should drop him or not. And this friend needs an answer now, because he’s really f***ing nervous and doesn’t want to make the wrong decision.
The problem for my friend is that Jacquizz Rodgers has been awesome in the meantime. In fact, he has legitimately been a top 10 running back in the two games that he has started. Additionally, with the recent dominance of Mike Evans, head coach Dirk Koetter may be looking to put the ball in young star QB Jameis Winston’s hands more consistently. It’s pretty clear that Tampa and Winston are tied up pretty tight with one another, so keeping their superstar QB happy will continue to be at the top of the proverbial “wish list”. Given all of these factors, I would recommend that Martin owners remain cautiously optimistic at best. In fact, I would actually be on the side of placing Martin on the trade block.
