Drew Bledsoe: Throwing Players In At Quarterback For Jets Is Like Throwing Virgins Into A Volcano
When was the last time you've heard an NFL quarterback get compared to a sacrificial virgin?
Well, Drew Bledsoe just went there. Shit got weird when the former New England Patriots was dicussing Mark Sanchez's fresh start with the Eagles now that Nick Foles is injured. He provided some transparency about the Jets' quarterback situation.
“You know, I’m just so damn happy for Mark Sanchez,” Bledsoe said to Colin Cowherd, via NFL.com. “I mean, going to play quarterback for the Jets, it’s kind of like, you know when they used to like take the pretty young virgin up to the edge of the volcano and just throw ‘em in? That’s kind of what it is when you play quarterback for the Jets. It just feels bad.”
Rookie quarterback is to virgin as the Jets' offense is to a volcano. I like it -- especially considering Tim Tebow played for the Jets for a while. But the virgin-advocate wasn't done.
"And Mark had to live with that for a long time," Bledsoe said. "And people threw him under the bus like he was the whole reason for the demise of the Jets. To see him be able to come on the field in a good system with good talent and perform well, I'm just really happy for him."
First Sanchez. Now Geno Smith. Who's next in line, Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston? I doubt those guys are virgins. But if Sexy Rexy is their head coach, and they get drafted, you can bet one of those foot soldiers will end up in the depth of the Jets' volcano.
