Fantasy Football Dynasty/Keeper Impact of Impending Free Agents
By Dane "SPEEDZ" Martinez
One key approach for you Fantasy Football Dynasty and Keeper leaguers is to streamline your roster if you’re making the playoffs or not. Check on the guys who will be free agents in the offseason and likely moving. Last year you knew Mike Glennon was going to be a free agent and someone was going to make him their starter, making him viable in deep superflex and 2QB leagues. It didn’t go according to plan for him (despite the $54M) but you get the idea. You also knew Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson might leave Washington, leaving Jamison Crowder as the lone familiar target for Kirk Cousins. Here are some interesting free agents going into the offseason and what may be left behind this offseason. Check out some of the key players below and be sure to listen to more of my in-depth insights in the FNTSY Radio Network clip above.
QB – You know Alex Smith and Kirk Cousins may hit the market, but so will all three QBs currently on the Vikings roster. Could all of them (including Case Keenum) convince a team to give them a chance to start next year? Ryan Tannehill has an out too.
RB – Carlos Hyde is a free agent and Matt Breida seems to fit the Kyle Shanahan scheme – he could he have a bigger role next year. Frank Gore’s contract (and maybe career) is over, so Marlon Mack could be the heir apparent in Indy. What happens to Duke Johnson’s stock if Isaiah Crowell has suitors in the spring? Lastly, do you think Le’Veon Bell will want to re-sign in Pittsburgh if Ben decides to retire? Did they draft the replacement last year in James Conner?
WR – Allen Robinson is on IR and may take the opportunity to walk away from the Jaguars (and Blake Bortles) who now seemingly to want to win with defense and a new running game. DeVante Parker’s role could grow even more if Jarvis Landry finds a new team.
TE – Antonio Gates is in the same boat as Frank Gore, and he got his records already. Queue up Hunter Henry, for real this time. With Cameron Brate set to hit the open market early-round pick O.J. Howard could step right in as a target for Jameis Winston.
