Not only did Kyle Orton throw for four touchdowns and register 26.1 Fantasy Points (FP) last week, he did so with just 10 completions. That alone should tell you how vulnerable the Jets’ defense is. Now Alex Smith isn't going to throw for 300 yards and three touchdowns - he hasn't topped 255 all year, but he did throw for three touchdowns in Weeks 3 and 4. However, Smith does have a high floor thanks to his consistency and ability to chip in a few rushing yards. Back to the Jets, they give Smith a great chance at notching three touchdowns again. Smith is certainly a safer and smarter play than either Michael Vick or Robert Griffin III. Sure, they both have a higher ceiling, mainly thanks to their legs, but Week 9 is when the risk outweighs the high ceiling. First, both face defenses allowing 15.4 DAFP or less to quarterbacks, and second, who knows if either player makes it through the game, as they run around like crazy.
Now, if you just want to shoot for the moon, by all means, risk it all. While you're at it, why not just play the lottery and golf in a thunderstorm?
Other matchup-boosted QBs: Teddy Bridgewater, Colin Kaepernick, Cam Newton, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Andy Dalton

Since taking over the backfield, expectations have been high for Jerick McKinnon. After all, you don't put up 152 yards on the Falcons, or 82 against a tough Lions defense and then disappoint. Right?... RIGHT? Oh, wait. McKinnon had just 82 yards (-1 receiving) and zero touchdowns against the Bucs defense last week. Hmm. That was a bit disappointing.
If that's all McKinnon did against a weak defense, I certainly am hesitant to use him against a Redskins’ defense that is the third toughest matchup, even after allowing DeMarco Murray to run wild. Meanwhile, another running back that also just recently got a lead role looked great against the Browns and Dolphins, and now gets a Bengals’ defense that can't stop the run. Denard Robinson has 245 yards and a touchdown over the last two games, and it's a bit surprising, but the Bengals allow the sixth-most FPPG to running backs and are tied for third in rushing touchdowns allowed (seven). Robinson's production along with this matchup has him much higher in the Week 9 Fantasy Football rankings.
Other matchup-boosted RBs: Ahmad Bradshaw, Marshawn Lynch, Ronnie Hillman, Mark Ingram, someone from the Bucs, Ben Tate (maybe?), Alfred Morris, Gio Bernard

Since Week 3 when both of these wide receivers have been on the field, one has a line of 47 targets, 23 receptions, 216 yards and 25.6 Fantasy Points. The other has 54/34/378/49.8. So which one do you want? The second receiver, right? Then why is the first receiver owned in 83.8 percent of ESPN leagues and the second just 6.2?! Oh, let's throw in the fact that the second receiver ranks 24th in the league since Week 3. Have you figured out who these guys are yet? They are Cecil Shorts and Allen Robinson. Stop messing around and make the switch already!
With the toughest matchup of the week, it's even more reason to send Shorts packing (plus it is fall time and all… see what I did there *wink, nudge*) and use someone like Terrance Williams instead. Williams and the Cowboys face a Cardinals defense that’s allowing nearly 10 more DAFP per game. To be honest, I'm still just baffled at the ownership percentages.
Other matchup-boosted WRs: Andrew Hawkins, Kelvin Benjamin, Dez Bryant, Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins, Saints, Dwayne Bowe, Michael Crabtree, Jeremy Maclin, Antonio Brown and Martavis Bryant

Aside from the big names, tight ends have been a crapshoot this year. Seriously, have you ever played craps? I always feel like I'm missing something when it comes to betting, especially since there are about 1,100 places to put your bet even though it's all just based on a dice roll. Maybe that's why I always walk away befuddled and poorer.
In any case, Clay Harbor, even with two quiet games in a row, ranks as the 15th best tight end in FPPG (6.2) since he started playing in Week 4. In that first week, Harbor had eight catches for 69 yards and then finished with 91 yards and a touchdown in Week 6. There is upside - albeit with plenty of risk - and the Bengals help provide upside this week. Only the Bears allow more FPPG and have a higher DAFP than the Bengals do, and they're off this week. Enter Harbor. It's why I prefer his upside to Charles Clay. Since Week 4, Clay has just 4.7 FPPG and has the toughest in the Week 9 rankings, according to DAFP, with a Chargers team allowing just 5.7 to tight ends.
Other matchup-boosted TEs: Travis Kelce, Larry Donnell, Dwayne Allen, Jace Amaro, Rob Gronkowski and Tim Wright, Jason Witten
