The above video is from Fox’ broadcast of the Bears’ 2011 opening-day win over the Falcons, when a segment featuring news “headlines” criticizing Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler aired with the commentary from analyst Daryl Johnston assuring viewers they were “actual headlines.”
Problem is, they weren’t.
The Chicago Tribune didn’t recognize the headlines as having come from their paper, and investigated. They eventually got Fox to admit the headlines were “misleading.” But what about Johnston’s assertion they were real?
In the wake of News Corp. (which owns Fox) being accused of rampant journalistic misconduct this is another black eye, and we’ll be on the lookout in the future for Fox promoting more fake news in its NFL broadcasts.
