Furious St. Louis Cops Want NFL To Discipline Rams Players For Pre-Game Demonstration
The St. Louis Police Officers Association is very upset over the pre-game protest by five members of the St. Louis Rams on Sunday prior to their game with the Raiders. Here's a portion of it below.
We reported on this on Sunday, failing to note the murky smoke from which the players emerged, which I assume represents tear gas. So the SLPOA issued a statement this morning condemning the entire thing, and calling on the NFL to punish the players involved. Also, they want an apology.
Think the police will now take to the streets to protest the protest?

Jared Cook was one of the five players involved.
"We kind of came collectively together and decided we wanted to do something," Cook said. "We haven't been able to go down to Ferguson to do anything because we have been busy. Secondly, it's kind of dangerous down there and none of us want to get caught up in anything.
"So we wanted to come out and show our respect to the protests and the people who have been doing a heck of a job around the world."

Partial statement by the SLPOA:
"I know that there are those that will say that these players are simply exercising their First Amendment rights," SLPOA business manager Jeff Roorda said in the statement. "Well I've got news for people who think that way, cops have first amendment rights too, and we plan to exercise ours.
OK, that made little to no sense. That's because it's Roorda.
Goodell's gonna do what Goodell's gonna do, which in this case I hope is nothing. I'm not saying that what the players did is justified or supported by the evidence, but it's their right to say it. You take away my first amendment rights, then we have problems. (no matter what the SLPOA is trying to say). Don't the police realize that that is what they're really charged with protecting?
