Gostkowski Re-Ups: The Highest Average Top 10 Salaries for Kickers Will Surprise You
The Patriots signed kicker Stephen Gostkowski to a four-year deal worth $17.2 million Wednesday, which forced us to take a look at the big money these true “footballers” are earning.
Fantasy Football owners wised up decades ago, realizing just how volatile the position is from one year to the next. Fantasy owners also know that the 12th-best Fantasy kicker isn’t too far off from the best Fantasy kicker.
That makes me wonder if the NFL understood this same Fantasy truth, to see if they are paying the right kickers the right average salaries entering 2015.
Top 10 Average Salaries For Kickers in 2015
Fantasy points are based on three points for field goals and one point for extra points. Obviously, many kickers are even more valuable to their NFL teams because of kickoffs and touchbacks, but we don’t worry about such ridiculousness here.
- Stephen Gostkowski, New England -- $4,300,000
There’s a reason you think about taking Gostkowski before the final round every season. He finished as the top Fantasy kicker for the third consecutive season in 2014, and he’s still just 31 years old.
- Sebastian Janikowski, Oakland -- $3,775,000
Coming off one of the worst years in his career, the former first-round pick out of FSU should see more scoring chances in 2015 with a much-improved offense. He’s still nothing more than a bye-week replacement in Fantasy, though.
- Robbie Gould, Chicago -- $3,750,000
Injuries slowed him in 2015, but nine total field goals in 12 games hurts anyone that used him in Fantasy even more than he was hurting.
- Josh Scobee, Jacksonville -- $3,450,000
With 23 extra points in 16 games last season, Scobee ties Nick Folk for the fewest one-pointers per game last season.
- Dan Bailey, Dallas -- $3,214,286
From the worst in extra points to the best, Bailey kicked a career-high 56 extra points last year. With the running game expected to take a step back, so should Bailey’s extra-point attempts.
- Shaun Suisham, Pittsburgh -- $3,201,667
In five seasons with the Steelers, Suisham has missed just 14 field goals, including three last year.
- Graham Gano, Carolina -- $3,100,000
Only a few kickers missed more field goals than Gano’s six last year.
- Phil Dawson, San Francisco -- $3,067,000
The unraveling of the 49ers’ offense moved Dawson down from the sixth-best Fantasy kicker in 2013 down to the 21st-best kicker last year.
T-9. Nick Folk, N.Y. Jets -- $3,000,000
Folk might have had the fewest extra-point attempts, but he led the league with 39 field-goal attempts.
T-9. Matt Prater, Detroit -- $3,000,000
The former Broncos kicker signed with the Lions after Denver realized they could live without him once he came back from a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. I can hear Peyton now...
I hope you enjoyed this look at the top earning kickers in the NFL – you may now go back to not paying any attention to them ever again!
