Hey Raiders Let’s Go To Vegas … Mark Davis Says He’ll Move Team If He Gets Stadium

How serious is Mark Davis about moving the Oakland Raiders to Las Vegas? He's reportedly going to meet with both the Sands Group and the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee at UNLV on Thursday. -- which is also the first day of the NFL Draft. He wouldn't be the first guy to blow off an important work day to hit Vegas, but the situation is a bit unique in this case.
Today Davis said that he's all in on moving his team to Vegas, say at least two reports -- if, that is, the city builds him a domed stadium. To that end, a group headed by the Las Vegas Sands is in discussions to build a 65,000-seat, $1.2 billion Raiders stadium, to be located close to the Las Vegas Strip. It would be co-developed with City of Industry, the California-based Majestic Realty Co.
Jason Cole of Bleacher Report and Sports Illustrated both reported Davis' intentions today.
Of course all of this could be BS, orchestrated to gain leverage to that Alameda County will shell out money to keep the Raiders in Oakland. But f Oakland is hot to keep the Raiders, its playing that very, very close to the vest. It's looking like the Raiders will be moving somewhere by next year.
But here's a complication: the Raiders are currently close to selling out their season tickets this coming season, which would be the first time that's happened in franchise history.
The Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee reviews tourism-related projects for possible state funding. That final call would have to be made by the Nevada legislature.
NFL owners have been traditionally loathe to permit a franchise to locate in Vegas, due to gambling concerns. But Jason Cole reports that they've softened their stance of recent years, and this could be the time for a team to finally make it.
