Jaguars’ Gratz Arrested For Attempt To Use Bubble Gum as Money
These days, it's never a surprise to hear that a professional athlete has gone broke and is working some blue collar job to pay the bills. Jacksonville Jaguars starting cornerback Dwayne Gratz, a second-year player out of Connecticut, took the "Athlete Gone Broke" stereotype to a whole new level this weekend.
Gratz was arrested early Sunday morning when he tried to pay for several items at a grocery store with bubble gum. He was shopping at the Miami's Ocean Reef Suites at the hotel convenience store. ESPN reports that Gratz was intoxicated and argued with an employee when he was denied the ability to make a purchase with bubble gum instead of money.
He was booked at 5:53 a.m. for disorderly intoxication and trespassing after a warning, spending the night in jail and missing practice on Monday.
"He had an unfortunate situation over the weekend," Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said. "It's not good what took place."
I'd like to think that Bradley blew bubble of Bazooka and winked at reporters before walking away.
