Jim Harbaugh Ends Radio Interview When Host Likens Colin Kaepernick To A Moody Teen
It happened this morning on KNBR Radio in San Francisco, as hosts Brian Murphy and Paul McCaffrey (Murph and Mac!) were interviewing Jim Harbaugh -- never a meadow of fragrant flowers these days, for sure.
So the conversation veered toward Colin Kaepernick's post-game interview behavior, which following the loss to the Raiders set some kind of record for abruptness and brevity.
Murphy: "To you is Colin Kaepernick the long-term 49ers quarterback?"
Murphy: "You gave a very spirited defense of Kaepernick last week, very eloquent in your words defending his behaviour with the media. ... But now that it's happened again on Sunday, it almost seemed like a teenage kid at the dinner table not wanting to talk about his day at school ... can you nudge him toward giving better answers?"
Harbaugh: "Yeah, I kinda feel like you're trying to provoke."
Murphy: "No! Pedople want to know."
Harbaugh: "And it's kinda insulting when you call him a teenage kid or compare him to a kid. I think very highly of him, Murph, I think the world of him. True competitor, and I'm gonna disagree with you."
Murphy: "We get 49ers fans calling in who are insulted by Kaepernick's quiet, half-hearted postgame interviews."
Harbaugh: "I do see the fans' point of view. He wasn't chatty."
Murphy: (Starts to speak).
Harbaugh: "I really don't wanna have the conversation. I wanna move on with my day."
End of interview. And that has been this week's Jim Harbaugh Show!
I don't know -- does that sound like a coach who knows he's not going to be around long?
