John Cena, Donald Trump Rip NFL In Deflategate Controversy
John Cena, at Barclay's Center today to promote tonight's WWE SummerSlam, had some words of advice for Tom Brady concerning Deflategate, Cena, on ESPN:
“Let your accomplishments speak for yourself. There is no better argument to any speculation than to go out there and just kick some ass. You are great; you are part of a great organization that prides itself on trying to create a dynasty atmosphere. … Stay the course, keep doing well, and years from now we’ll just wonder why we spent federal tax dollars investigating deflated footballs.”
Cena, a WWE wrestler, is from Boston. Last week, Donald Trump had this to say to Fox Business News:
“I think it’s ridiculous the way they’ve treated him,” Trump said. “He’s a friend of mine — a great friend of mine. He’s a great guy and I think it’s terrible the way they’ve treated him. To spend $10 million in legal fees, and now it’s probably much higher than that. It’s crazy what they’re doing. He’s a great star. They ought to go back to playing football. This country has bigger problems.
The Boston Globe wrote today that Brady "has a 50-0 lead at halftime" in the Deflategate court case, and that his legal team is "running circles around their opponents. If this were a football game, Brady would be removed soon, to protect him from injury."
But the Globe also says that the case isn't over, and that judge Richard Berman could still rule in favor of the NFL.
Even if that happens, Roger Goodell's reputation is taking a serious beating, as much of the world is linking up against him. In short, he;s made Brady a martyr, even among those who don't like the QB. The NFL convicted Brady with no evidence, and their only defense seems to be that "our bylaws state that Goodell can do whatever he wants."
