John Madden Has Undergone Open Heart Surgery, Says NFL
John Madden, one of the true NFL good guys is resting comfortably after undergoing successful open heart surgery, says the NFL. He was released from a San Francisco hospital on Wednesday. Madden is 79.
Many have worried about Madden's health pretty much since he retired from coaching -- all that turducken does not come without a price. But he is expected to make a full recovery, according the report.
The all-time winningest Raiders coach where he ran the team from 1969-1978, he nonetheless is best known as everyone's affable dad as color football commentator on CBS, Fox, ABC and NBC from 1979-2008. He also lent his name and persona to the EA Sports/Electronic Arts Madden NFL football video games beginning in 1988 -- the most successful and enduring video game collaboration in sports history.
