Johnny Manziel Sets Date To Go Sober, Parties All Over Instagram
Despite the fact that his father is afraid he's going to die, Johnny Manziel has been partying his skinny, out-of-shape butt off in Cabo. According to TMZ, he has decided to make this his last hurrah before going sober on July 1st so that he can make it back to the NFL.
Of course it's hard to believe that anyone who's serious about changing their life would have a going away party for the lifestyle that all but ruined them. That is to say: setting a specific date to go sober and then just raging in the mean time is the absolute worst way to prepare for sobriety. It's also not a great sign that he threw shade at his dad in the hashtags of this vacation post:

If he were ready to get things on track and try to revive his dead-in-the-water career, talking shit to the people that want to help you wouldn't be part of the equation.

Oh yeah, this guy is totally ready to be on the wagon.
Another terrible way to get ready for sober life is to hang around a bunch of people doing drugs. In their report, TMZ included a Snapchat photo from a woman - who is one of 20 or so people staying at the mansion - holding a handful of little, neatly packed bags of white powder.
TMZ then spoke to Manziel, who admitted that he doesn't know everyone that is staying on the property and denied that the drugs were his.
"They're absolutely not mine. I don't even know that girl."
Of course, they don't have to be his drugs for him to partake. That may sound like unnecessary parsing of words, but celebrities learn very early on to avoid lying without telling the full truth. It seems like TMZ was all over that though, because apparently Manziel also told them specifically that he's not doing any drugs in Mexico and that he plans to go completely sober beginning in July. That means "no booze, eating right and training like crazy."
Manziel said that he's determined to make a comeback to the NFL and that he's finally ready to get back to work.
Riiiiiiight. Because everyone knows that if you want to be in NFL-ready condition, you need to be sure to start by July 1st and you'll be good to go by September. Somebody get Tom Brady on the line and tell him that he's wasting his time for the last 15 years. He could be "not doing drugs" in Mexico right now as long as he hits the gym by Independence Day.
This is all just sad. It's truly worrisome that the people around Manziel are continually willing to enable him in order to enjoy the perks that come with him. It's horrible to watch someone unravel like this, and it's hard to see this going in a direction that truly results with Manziel beginning a successful journey of sobriety on July 1st. Maybe Manziel will be the first person in history to approach sobriety this way and make it stick, but I'm not optimistic.
