Johnny Manziel’s Father: ‘(My Son)’s A Druggie. I Hope He Goes To Jail’
You know that your troubled lifestyle may have hit critical mass when your own father admits that you're "a druggie", and hopes you end up in jail for your own good.
That's Paul Manziel, talking to ESPN this morning about his son Johnny. Manziel's latest escapade? It's hard to say ... they're coming in bunches now. The first thing I heard today was that his attorney, Bob Hinton, accidentally sent a text message to the Associated Press, detailing his strategy in Manziel's domestic abuse case.
Hinton wrote that he's trying to seek a plea deal, but it's hard because his client won't stay out of trouble. AP gleefully shared the mistaken missive with the world today. Just before that, pictures emerged of Manziel's car with a huge dent in the driver's side door, from some sort of road collision.
Apparently Manziel's dad has reached the breaking point. Facebook post from ESPN's Adam Schefter:

Paul Manziel, speaking about his son Johnny, to ESPN's Josina Anderson: "He's a druggie. It's not a secret that he's a druggie. I don't know what to say other than my son is a druggie and he needs help. He just hasn't seeked it yet. Hopefully he doesn't die before he comes to his senses. That's about all you can say. I don't know what else to say. I hate to say it but I hope he goes to jail. I mean, that would be the best place for him. So we'll see."

Wow. We're witnessing one of the most dramatic physical and mental collapses of a young athlete in pro sports history, and where's the fun in that? At this point it just makes you feel a bit queasy. And desperately rooting for a successful comeback of some sort -- if not in football, then at least in life.
