Just Listening To Michelle Tafoya's Report On Victor Cruz's Season-Ending Knee Injury Is Horrifying
Victor Cruz of the New York Giants, salsa extraordinaire, is out for the year after tearing his patellar tendon. If you managed to watch more than one half of the Eagles' dismemberment of the Giants last night, you probably saw the moment it happened -- Cruz went up for a catch in the end zone and grabbed his knee in agony before he hit the ground.
What follows was one of the most saddening and horrifying two minutes of television for Giants fans, or anyone who likes good football. Cruz was in obvious pain, and sideline reporter Michelle Tafoya confirmed its severity by saying "I can't remember the last time I covered an injury where I heard so much screaming and pain and agony... in particular when they picked him up to put him on that cart. It was as though that pain was coming back and re-surging."
Watch and listen:
The severity and rarity of Cruz's injury was echoed by reporters throughout the Twittersphere:
Pretty rare that you see a guy picked up off the ground as carefully as Victor Cruz just was.

Raw emotion from Victor Cruz. Athletes know when it's serious.

Oh, man. That shot of Victor Cruz breaking down as he leaves the field on a cart is just heartbreaking. I don't care who your team is.

This was was weird though:
Anytime there's a non-contact injury, with carts for the player, and sobs from the player, it's sobering and disheartening.
