Kirk Cousins Says Nicest Thing You’ll Ever Hear About Dan Snyder
Washington Football Team owner Dan Snyder has a family, so let's go ahead and add the caveat before jumping in here that they've probably said nice things to him before. Like "I love you, husband," or "You're really generous with the allowance you pay me out of your $2.1 billion net worth -- thanks dad." But putting family ties aside, what Kirk Cousins said in a Reddit AMA yesterday amounts to the nicest thing we've heard about Dan Snyder, possibly ever.
Cousins, the team QB, is likely angling for a new deal after putting together a surprisingly robust season and leading Washington to the division title. He's a free agent and wants that sweet, sweet paper. Snyder holds the keys to likely his best offer -- sure, the Texans or Rams or some other team could throw a deal at Cousins, but Washington most likely wants to lock him down and cast Robert Griffin III out to sea.
So when someone asked Cousins on Reddit about his boss, he toed the company line:
Q: Hey Kirk! In your last AMA you answered multiple challenging questions with a lot of candor. With that said, I’m curious to your thoughts on Dan Snyder as an owner? He’s often criticized by the media so I was interested in the thoughts of a player.
Cousins : Great question! Nobody wants to win more than Mr. Snyder. I've been around him for 4 years now, and I've seen his passion for the game, and I've seen his frustration after losses in the locker room; I've seen how celebratory he is after wins. He really lives and dies with each game, and he's a true fan. I think that's what you want as a player, someone who cares about your team at the top, someone who cares about winning, and that's Mr. Snyder down to the core.
A quality, politically correct answer here, as Cousins wisely side-steps the fact that Snyder is mostly full of shit when it comes to things like the offensive name of his franchise or the fact that he'll sue season-ticket holders or ban signs in the stadium. Yeah, he cares about winning. Cool.
Cousins was forth-coming and expansive with most of his other answers in the AMA -- read the rest here, and take note of the fact that he recently finished Dr. Ben Carson's book, which I know has a real title but I'm choosing to believe is called "The Electromagnetic Pulse And You: America's A Brain And I'm Here To Do Weird Things To It."
