Lamar Miller finally seems to have recovered from the ankle sprain that sidelined him for the final two weeks of the regular season. Miller played through a mild ankle sprain for much of November and December, but then he re-aggravated the injury in Week 15 and was forced to miss games because of an injury for the first time in his career.
Miller has now returned to practice and was a full-go on Wednesday and Thursday. After taking two weeks off, Miller is approaching the end of the optimal recovery time for his injury, meaning he is close to full health. His numbers have improved according to the Inside injuries algorithm, moving from high risk to elevated risk and into the above average Health Performance Factor category. This makes him a cautious start for anyone playing DFS this weekend.
Even though Miller is improving, there is still some risk associated with him taking the field against the Raiders. His lateral movement will be the biggest thing to keep an eye on, but his speed should not be a concern. His cuts may not be as crisp as we are used to seeing out of him and stability could be an issue. Also, because running backs are often hit by multiple defenders at a time, he is at greater risk of tweaking his ankle again.
The Texans will need his help to spark their offense. They will again be led by Brock Osweiler, as Tom Savage is out with a concussion, but he struggled in most of his starts this year. If Miller can get things going on the ground, it should open things up for their passing game. The Texans always rely heavily on their defense to win games, but the offense will also need to do their part if they want to move on to the next round. Lamar Miller will need to be a big factor for them to succeed.
