Le’Veon Bell To Be Suspended For Four Games Due To Stupidity
July 22 / Gregg Sussman / SportsGrid
By now, we all pretty much understand how the NFL's drug policy works. You fail enough drug tests, you ultimately get suspended for four game and then if you can't quit, you're gone for a season. Most players who get suspended for four games for marijuana or adderall smarten up. They realize they made an error and make sure never to do it again. Others are simply addicts, like Martavis Bryant or Will Hill, who have been suspended repeatedly for violations with the drug policy. Either you figure it out or you don't. Le'Veon Bell falls in the "idiot" category.
Last year, Bell was suspended for three games (later reduced to two upon appeal) following being caught with marijuana alongside former teammate LeGarrette Blount. It was a stupid mistake and Bell served the consequences. His lawyer said he was confident that Bell would not be a repeat offender. While Bell has not, in fact, failed another drug test, he narrowly avoided it.
Players that are not in the league's drug program are tested one time between April 20th (not coincidentally) and some time in August. One time. Seems pretty easy to be prepared for and sounds much more like an intelligence test, than an actual honest drug test. Le'Veon Bell's test came recently and Bell realized that he couldn't past the test, so he decided to skip it all together. Seeing as how the NFL treats a missed test the same as a failed test, Bell is now suspended for the first four games of the 2016 season.
Le'Veon Bell may not be a stoner or a pothead, but we can say that he doesn't make great decisions. The Steelers, who are already without Bryant for the year, will miss Bell against the Redskins, Bengals, Eagles and Chiefs. Antonio Brown's stock just continued to explode.
