LIVE STREAM: Peyton Manning’s Retirement Press Conference
If you were expecting to see tears streaming down the face of Peyton Manning in his retirement press conference, welp, you were sadly disappointed. One of the most stoic figures in American professional sports managed to keep it in for the length of his farewell speech Monday, though he did come close to breaking when he got to thanking his family, namely, his wife and kids.
"Mom, Dad, Cooper, Eli, extended family -- you are the best -- and Ashley, your support is as potent a motivator as any man can have. Ashley and my kids have only been around for a couple years but they have changed my life forever," Manning said, becoming visibly choked up. He then relayed what could possibly be the cutest story ever told at an NFL podium.
"A week before the Super Bowl, our daughter asked me, 'Daddy, is this the last game?' 'Yes, Mosley, it's the last game of the season.' She said 'I sure do you want to win the trophy.' I said, 'I do too and that's what we're going to try to do.' Then she said, 'Is this the last game ever?' That's when I shook my head and I was thinking Adam Schefter got to my 5-year-old daughter.'
Phew, that was close.
