What Can We Take From This Log Of Over 1,000 Jonathan Martin-Richie Incognito Text Messages?

The Big Lead has gotten their hands on over 1,000 text messages that Dolphins linemen Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito sent each other from October 2012 to October 2013. It's a fascinating glimpse into a relationship that became so toxic it ended in Martin leaving the team and Incognito -- in the midst of rehabilitating his image as a meathead with anger issues -- perhaps out of the NFL forever.
Martin claimed to be victim of bullying at the hands of his Miami teammates, led by Incognito. Incognito, on the other hand, said Martin was like a brother to him, and in fact may have been told by the Dolphins coaching staff to "toughen up" the young Stanford product.
Because this is what we do, we went through all 48 pages of text messages to see if anything caught our eye about the relationship between the two players. Here's what we can say with certainty:
1) These two guys are your stereotypical jocks.
If you've read one page of these texts, you've essentially read them all. They only discuss a few topics: getting "puss," getting "faded," being hungover, getting food, going to the movies, going to practice, wash, rinse, repeat. They're like frat brothers. Here's one page, selected at random, to demonstrate that:

2) Martin was able to dish out crass, disgusting, inappropriate things nearly as well as he got them.
"I'm gonna give McDonald bath salts and lock him in your house with a tranquilizer gun & a box of sandpaper condoms." First of all, I don't think they make sandpaper condoms. Second of all, here's Incongito's response: "Hahaha."
3) It doesn't seem like there was that much pressure to go on trips to Las Vegas and Brazil.
We originally heard that Incognito was forcing Martin to pay for trips he didn't want to go on. But based on the exchange below, that doesn't appear to be the case:

4) Incognito appears to be a mentor to Martin.
Martin often asks Incognito things like what days they have off, when they have to be in to lift, and how he'll be training in the offseason. Incognito tells Martin to watch film, explains how to download the correct app for his iPad, and reminds Martin of meetings. It's definitely a big brother-little brother situation.
5) Overall, these guys don't appear to have an antagonistic relationship. However...
...these are just text messages. Trying to understand a human relationship using just text messages is like reading only the odd-numbered pages of a book and expecting to get the full story. So much more may have happened in person (that we won't have record of) that made Martin lose his cool -- and eventually cost himself and Incognito their jobs.
But the texts are a huge blow to Martin's case. He doesn't seem like a victim here. He seems like a willing participate. That's not going to bode well in the court of public opinion, where Incognito has already taken a beating.
How heavily will these texts weigh into special investigator Ted Wells' findings about the case? We'll find out later this week.
Head over to The Big Lead for all the texts.
