Tebowmania Armageddon? Peyton Manning Is “Leaning Toward Denver”
One minute you're throwing 80-yard overtime touchdowns and turning the sports world on its head, and the next you're headed to... Jacksonville? Yes, it seems that memory spans are short in Denver, where the man who inspired a nation with his late game dramatics and meme-able poses will be shown the door if Peyton Manning signs with the Broncos. And reports say that the former Colt is leaning in that direction.
According to CBS Sports, a source close to Manning says the QB has narrowed his choices to Denver and Arizona. Miami, the former presumed front runner, may not even get an official visit from Manning. And the Broncos have the edge over Cardinals because Manning would prefer to stay in the AFC.
But what does that mean for Tebow, who Broncos fans and players rallied behind last year, even ousting incumbent QB Kyle Orton in favor of him? A source says that a return to his hometown of Jacksonville would be most likely. Which would be nice for the Jaguars, who have been mired in hopelessness for years and could use a little inspiration (not to mention a few more notches in the wins column), and for Gator Nation, which would probably relish the opportunity to see the former UF quarterback more often.
But would Denver fans really let go of the missionary QB so quickly? The answer, when it comes down to it, is "Duh." The chance to win NOW is paramount in the NFL, and no amount of coaching from Vice President John Elway can guarantee success from the much younger Tebow. The Broncos, anchored by a good defense, would automatically be launched into the AFC stratosphere with the addition of Manning, and that's exactly what everyone in Denver wants. Even more than seeing Tebow succeed.
Who would have imagined the shock waves that this one neck injury is sending throughout the league? The Colts are no longer the team we thought they were, the Broncos will see a huge upgrade at the quarterback position (assuming Manning is healthy and Tebow does not make an astronomical leap in his skill set this offseason), and the Blaine Gabbert experiment will probably be coming to an end for the Jaguars if Tebow does end up there. Remember, the letters N.F.L. stand for "Not For Long."
