HAHAHAHA: Marcus Mariota > Jameis Winston
It couldn't have been scripted any better. Rookie quarterbacks Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota, the number 1 and number 2 picks in the 2015 NFL Draft, faced off in the very first game of the season; and it could not have been more lopsided.
Many analysts, scouts and various media and fans had more than just an inkling that 2014 Heisman winner Mariota would be the better NFL quarterback, but 2013 Heisman winner Winston was too tempting of an all-around athlete for the Bucs to pass over. Yet when the two got their first chance to prove which team made the better choice, there was a very clear winner and it wasn't Winston.
Mariota only had to play three full quarters after helping the Titans to a 42-7 lead over the Bucs, going 13-16 for 209 yards and 4 TDs for a perfect passer rating of 158.3. Each touchdown was thrown to a different receiver. Most of that work was done in the first half.
Currently with just about four and a half minutes left in the game, Winston is 15-29 for 206 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs for a passer rating of 69.0. That may not sound that bad but a large chunk of those yards and one of the touchdowns have come during fourth quarter garbage time.
UPDATE: Winston finished the game 16/33 for 210 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs for a passer rating of 64.0. The final score of the game was 42-14 Titans.
So you can make that two games in a row that his team has been stomped by a Marcus Mariota-led opponent.
