This Hit Tore Brian Cushing’s ACL And Ended His Season, And Now Texans Fans Want Blood
Matt Slauson. That's the answer you'll get if you ask any Texans fan who's the
NFL player general person in life they hate most right now. Not John Edwards. Not Tiger Woods. Not whatever disposable reality show person America has decided to hate recently. If you redid this little poll right now, and stipulated that the respondents only be people from Houston, unassuming Jets guard Matt Slauson is topping that list.
Why? Slauson is the reason Texans middle linebacker Brian Cushing is out for the season with a torn ACL, an injury he suffered during Houston's 23-17 monday night win over the Jets. With 10:36 to go in the third quarter, the Jets ran off tackle with Bilal Powell for a modest gain. Near the end of the play, Cushing was chop-blocked from behind by Slauson:
So, dirty or not? According to Rex Ryan, not dirty...
"I never saw anything specifically; I was just watching our game tape. I'll say this: We got rolled up a few times in our game, and sometimes in this game you have to be fortunate to avoid some injury."
...which is exactly what you expect to hear from Slauson's coach. And this isn't sitting well with Texans' fans: they want BLOOD.
A sampling of YouTube comments from the video above, and from an earlier ProFootballTalk post about the injury.
that cheap mother fucker I hope he rips his hamstring
Slauson went after Cushing’s knee when he wasn’t looking. How was that not a dirty play??
What a chicken shit, pointless block. He could have easily hit him higher. Cushing didn't even see him.
Typical. So its “ok” to dive at players knee when you’re out of the play?
Pointless.. Why do that. why hit him right there, there is no reason for that hit
What a piece of shit! Those are the type of idiot players that don't deserve to play. He is putting someone's livelihood in jeopardy.
So: clean, hard-nosed football, or dirtier than a Zumba instructor's sweaty undergarments? Sound off in the comments.
