Watch Michael Vick Take Out His Rough Day (And Risk His Season) On The Steelers’ Troy Polamalu
Michael Vick had a tough day yesterday. It started with everyone talking about that piece about him in GQ. Much of that attention focused on Vick's apparent claim that the NFL helped nudge him in the direction of signing with the Eagles (Vick would later say that the decision to go to Philadelphia was his).
And things got worse from there: Vick went out against the Pittsburgh Steelers and played as badly as we've seen from him in a long while. Sure, it's the preseason, but 5-12 passing with three interceptions has to cause some concern, even against a defense as good as Pittsburgh's. Vick said his poor performance had nothing to do with distractions caused by the GQ piece, and that he was just "pressing to put points on the board" - we can buy that. Maybe the attention over it was bothering him somewhat, but we have to think Vick's gotten pretty good at blocking out what the outside world is saying about him. This was just an off night.
But it was a way off night...the kind that, if you're a football player, might make you want to hit somebody. After one of those three picks, Vick got his chance. As the Steelers' Troy Polamalu raced downfield with the ball, he looked like he had a path open for a huge gain...but Vick got in the way:
Probably made Vick feel a little better. Probably made Andy Reid feel horrified. Made us feel impressed, mostly: for all the (justified) concern about the punishment Vick takes at his small-for-an-NFL-quarterback size, looks like he can dish some out, too. The Eagles would probably just prefer it if he did it on his own runs.
