PANTHERS LOSE: This Insane Julio Jones Catch Is The Reason Why
Julio Jones is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and an absolute athletic freak that has spent much of his prime wasting away on the Falcons offense, catching passes from probably the most hot and cold quarterback in the league in Matt Ryan. Somehow though, he continues to blow minds; and this time, defy the laws of gravity.
Late in the third quarter and trailing three points to the Panthers, Ryan hucked a ball deep to Jones was double-covered down the field. The ball was thrown short and almost certainly would've been intercepted or batted down by Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly. Except that didn't happen, because Jones improbably REACHED OVER the 6'3" Kuechly to snatch the ball from his clutches and take it to the house.
That couldn't have been as amazing as it looked in real time. Let's zoom in and slow it down:
Sweet baby Jesus. All other catches today can hang their heads in shame for not being as amazing as that catch.
In the end, with just 1:02 left on the clock and a chance to try for the tying touchdown, Cam Newton fumbled the ball and turned it over and the Panthers lost the game, 20-13; meaning that Jones' touchdown was the deal-sealer for the Falcons. Catch of the Year, indeed.
