Of Course Marshawn Lynch Retired In The Middle Of The Super Bowl
Appearing to confirm rumors that he would retire rather than return to the Seattle Seahawks (or go Oakland, if the Raiders are still in Oakland next season, for a hometown victory lap), Marshawn Lynch tweeted a photo of his green cleats on a wire late last night. He's hanging them up:

And yep -- if you check the timestamp, he tweeted this out in the middle of the Super Bowl, because if there's one thing Lynch hates, it's people paying attention to him when he's not on the football field. The guy who made not talking to the media -- except for Conan O'Brien, for some reason -- part of his brand once again decided how the story would be told. We doubt there will be a follow-up presser in which Beast Mode elucidates his thought process and discusses plans for the future.
Then, doubling down on the whole "I'm letting you know I'm retiring but really, don't talk to me or about me or make a big deal out of this," thing, Lynch soon after retweeted a "tribute" from someone else: Pitt running back James Conner tweeted out a grainy SportsCenter highlight which showed him rocking a Beast Mode warm-up shirt.

The Seahawks won't miss having to pay him way more than Thomas Rawls, and the other 31 teams no longer have to worry about tackling him, but the game is certainly poorer without even the possibility of another Beast Mode run. Peace.
