Out: Manziel Mania. In: Clausen-sanity
It's hard to express how much I love the artwork below. Jimmy Clausen may not "light it up" on the field this Sunday as some of his Bears' teammates seem to believe, but he's already lighting it up on the intertubes.

As you know, Jay Cutler and his millions of bucks were benched by Chicago coach Marc Trestman, who said that Clausen will start vs. the Lions. That's Jimmy Clausen, who hasn't started a game since 2010 and hasn't really done anything since to warrant this move.
Clausen was with Carolina in 2010 -- the year he was drafted -- and finished the season with a 1-9 record, 3 TDs and 9 interceptions and a 58.4 passer rating.
What I just said on @nflnetwork : Bears offensive players believe Clausen will 'light it up,' simply because he'll run offense as prescribed

Er, perhaps. But starting an unproven backup is likely more a case of injecting a little excitement and hope into a team that is stuck in neutral. As Johnny Manziel engendered interest in the Browns last week, Clausen will do so for the Bears, because in the NFL hope springs eternal.
Sadly, these things usually do not last.
THE CLAUSEN FILE:
Played for Notre Dame, but before that he attended Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, CA (a suburb of Los Angeles), where his teams went 42-0 and won three Division III state titles. He holds the California state record for career touchdowns (146). That's the same high school where the sons of Wayne Gretzky, Joe Montana and actor Will Smith played football.
I attended a couple of his games, and even then the critics were saying that Clausen's status as "the next Joe Namath" was highly suspect. His success, they said, was more due to inferior competition and great teammates. (Running back Marc Tyler was one).
At any rate, his four-year career as a pro has been less than stellar. But can Trestman and his reputation as a QB guru bring out the Oaks Christian/Notre Dame Clausen? If that happens, oh my, Manziel Mania will look like an afternoon yoga class.
