Patriots Give Tom Brady First Team Reps, Still Think He’ll Play Week 1

Tom Brady, if you hadn't heard, has been suspended for the first four games of the 2015 NFL season. Tom Brady, if you hadn't heard, appealed that suspension and lost, because Roger Goodell oversaw said appeal and wasn't happy with Brady's suspicious decision to destroy his phone. Tom Brady, if you hadn't heard, is going to take the NFL to court with the help of the NFLPA -- though few think he has a strong enough case to win.
And yet, here's Tom Brady, taking first team snaps in Patriots training camp:
New England is holding out hope that Brady wins in court, or can get an injunction that allows him to play while the case is being decided. So rather than give backup Jimmy Garoppolo a chance to work with the first team, Brady is taking the snaps as if he hasn't been in the league since the year 2000.
If Brady's suspension holds, the Pats will play the Steelers, Bills, Jaguars and Cowboys. That's at least two games against playoff contenders and one divisional matchup. Maybe things will change as the days and weeks go on, but the fact that the Patriots aren't trying to get Garoppolo ready to face real regular season NFL competition for the first time is stunning.
Of course, Bill Belichick is a mad genius, so this will all probably work out for the defending champs somehow, someway.
