Philly Sports Radio Personality Breaks Down Why Chip Kelly And Philly Were A Bad Fit
Anthony Gargano's morning sports talk radio show on 97.5 "The Fanatic" is widely considered the voice of reason in the otherwise caustic, knee-jerk Philadelphia sports media brain trust. After head coach Chip Kelly's firing brought out some pretty wild expletive-filled celebrations from the Eagles fanbase, those of you unfamiliar with the area might find yourself wondering what kind of intense psychological trauma has caused Philly sports fans to be so, um, intense.
On Colin Cowherd's Fox Sports 1 show Wednesday afternoon, Gargano gave the definitive sermon on what an Eagles fan is and why Chip Kelly was doomed from the start.
you have super bowls up and down the northeast corridor. you have them in new england and new york and d.c. and baltimore and zero here. it's a place that dearly cares about football. it's the soul of a football team more than baseball and basketball. the fact that they have no super bowls creates a lot of angst. it's a very emotional place. chip is this guy that comes into this emotional area -- we hug you, we over hug you, we over love you, we over hate you -- it's all about just raw emotion. chip is not that guy. andy reid was a huggy guy. the building loved him. he was a part of the community. the biggest job in philadelphia is not the mayor. it's the football coach for the eagles.
