Raiders Sign One-Year Lease Extension To Stay In Oakland For 2016
No one connected to the Raiders is prepared to promise that the team will be in Oakland for the long term, but Mark Davis and selected members of the Joint Powers Authority announced today that the Raiders will be in Oakland for the 2016 season.
In a press conference going on right now, live stream here, the Raiders announced a one-year lease extension to stay in their current home for this season. The agreement comes with options for 2017, 2018. In the meantime, Mark Davis will try to work out a deal for a new stadium on the same property.
"My heart is here in Oakland, and that's what I want to do" said Davis, in response to a question about how dedicated he is to remaining in the Bay Area. "When other cities call you and make offers, you have to look at it. You just have to: that's just good business. But I don't think I've said that I don't want to stay in Oakland."
So the West Coast NFL puzzle is complete for 2016 anyway, with the Rams in Los Angeles, the Chargers staying put in San Diego for at least one season while trying to make a deal for a new stadium there (option to share new stadium with Rams if that doesn't pan out), and Raiders staying in Oakland, trying for a new stadium there.
