Rookie Rankings for Second Half

Over the past few years, we have witnessed some great rookie classes coming in the NFL, which led us to believe that this incoming class of first-year professionals was going to be impressive also.

But after six weeks, which is close to a full half of a 13-week Fantasy regular season, we’ve been let down by the rookies.

Sure, Ezekiel Elliott has done enough alone to make up for nearly everyone else, but still, going by 2016 ADP numbers, we all expected more from the first-year players.

What’s really interesting, though, is where we were at this point last year, with a freshmen class that finished up with stellar results from guys like Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, Todd Gurley, David Johnson, Thomas Rawls, Matt Jones, Tevin Coleman, Amari Cooper and Stefon Diggs.

Through Week 6 of the 2015 NFL season, the only rookies ranking among Fantasy starters (top-12 QBs/TEs, top 30 RBs/WRs) were: David Johnson, Karlos Williams and Amari Cooper. And go back to Week 6 of the 2014 NFL season, and you find Odell Beckham Jr. with six catches for 72 yards and one touchdown. (OBJ was dealing with a hamstring injury to start the season.)

In other words, take the slow starts to heart. This second half of the 2016 season could see rookies blossom, much like it did last year, as the veterans ahead of them get injured, as the rookies learn the playbook, and as they earn their coach’s trust in pass protection and route running.
