Reason No. 221 That Roger Goodell Is A Tone-Deaf Nitwit: Laughs At Roger Staubach Concussion Joke
It's actually hard to tell who is the bigger fool here: Roger Staubach for telling a "corny" concussion joke, or Roger Goodell for laughing at it.
Staubach told the joke at the National Football Foundation Dinner at the Waldorf Astoria on Tuesday, and it could have been brilliant satire, worthy of the White House Correspondents Dinner. In fact, some in he room took it that way, as you can hear below. But sadly there's no way he meant it as satire, in fact admitting that it "was just a corny joke."
The joke: Staubach pretended to forget who the NFL commissioner was, then apologized, saying that he's had six concussions while playing in the NFL. I'm sure Junior Seau's wife finds that quite hilarious.
After the "joke", the camera pans to Goodell, who is laughing up a storm. May you find a hundred more concussion lawsuits under your tree this Christmas, you witless imbecile.
This comes only days after a New York Times op-ed piece by Dr. Bennet Omalu, who is calling for a ban on tackle football for children under 18. The head trauma issue is something that can literally take down the NFL if safety concerns are not addressed seriously. Will Goodell fiddle as the NFL burns? Did he really approve that joke, as Staubach declared?
Ah well, that's it for tonight's National Football Foundation Dinner, folks. Tip your waitress, and drive safely.
