Reggie Wayne Says Tom Brady Can’t Win The MVP Because He Cheated
Reggie Wayne, the former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver, was the recipient of multiple smack downs at the hand of Tom Brady and the Patriots during his career. In fact the final NFL game of his career was the AFC Championship Game that started the regrettable DeflateGate saga, in which the Patriots routed the Colts 45-7.
He wasn't salty enough back then to turn down a one-year deal with the Patriots for the 2015 season. At least, not at first. You probably don't remember that Wayne was ever a Patriot because he asked the team to release him prior to the start of the regular season. Reportedly, Wayne felt the environment was too tough and not enough fun.
Now in retirement, Wayne's spouting off about Tom Brady being a cheater. Go figure.
Let's be very clear here, Tom Brady was never caught cheating. He was accused of cheating, denied it, some ball boys lied about stuff, Brady refused to cooperate with Goodell and so he was suspended four games for failing to cooperate with the NFL's investigation. I'm not saying you have to believe that he's innocent of ball manipulation. I'm just laying out the facts. Besides, none of whatever happened even happened "this year." It happened in January of 2014.
And that's all assuming that quarterback manipulation of game balls can even be categorized as "cheating." It's very much up for debate.
Brady served his suspension for annoying the NFL, and now he's the best quarterback in the league on the team with the best record in the league. In the four games he's played, he's completed 73.1 percent of his passes for 329.8 yards per game, 12 touchdowns and zero interceptions. The Patriots are 4-0 in those games. If Brady plays anywhere near this level for the remainder of the season, he will deserve the MVP.
Wayne had to have known that saying something that stupid was going to make him look a little petty and bitter. If he needs to continuing pushing the "Tom Brady is a cheater" narrative to help him sleep at night, then more power to him. He'll need all the help he can get in earning his credibility as a football analyst.
