REPORT: Cleveland Browns Release Injury-Riddled Robert Griffin III
March 10 / Dan Russo / SportsGrid
And now, we continue our regularly scheduled programming of the RGIII saga.
Thursday was a rollercoaster of a day in NFL free agency that saw the Texans trade embattled starting quarterback Brock Osweiler to the Browns. Many wondered where that would leave Cleveland's injury-riddled Robert Griffin III.
The Browns ended the mind games on Friday, officially releasing RGIII.
Griffin quickly rose to NFL stardom as Rookie of the Year with the Washington Redskins, but has since been unable to stay on the field due to injuries. Ian Rapport confirmed that the release of RGIII was all but imminent.
The #Browns official release of RGIII will come today. They’re trying to shop Brock Osweiler. Will give Cody Kessler a chance to start.
What's cruelly ironic is that despite acquiring Osweiler, the Browns plan to turn around and try to trade him. This tells us that Griffin's time in Cleveland was coming to an end regardless of the Osweiler pickup.
Say what you will about RGIII's durability, but the man has been all class throughout his tumultuous career, especially this latest chapter. His farewell tweet to Cleveland proves that.
