Rex Ryan Does Presser In Clemson Helmet, Is ‘Shocked’ That Making IK Enemkpali A Captain Is Controversial
Rex Ryan takes on his old team, the Jets, on Thursday for the first time since he left, and so he engaged in a bit of schmaltzy theater this morning at his weekly press conference. He took questions while wearing a Clemson helmet, because he's Rex Ryan, and there's a screw loose somewhere, and why not? Also, his son Seth plays for Clemson, which plays at Syracuse on Saturday.

On Monday Ryan made IK Enemkpali a captain for the Jets game, which is a real slap in the face to Jets QB Geno Smith, whom Enemkpali punched in the jaw last season during practice, breaking it. Ryan briefly addressed this seemingly disrespectful move at today's presser, and typically pleaded ignorance.
Rex: “So much was made of the captain thing. … I’m a little shocked. I don’t get everything. But I’m not going to change how we do things."

Ryan is referring to his habit of making captains of players who formerly played for that week's opponent. But in doing so with Enemkpali, whom Ryan signed immediately after the player was released by the Jets, he's just insulting Smith. He's also galvanizing the Jets, giving them extra motivation to kick Buffalo's ass, which seems an odd strategy.
But that's Rex Ryan, son of Buddy Ryan, who, if they were German, might be the Gerhardts from the TV series Fargo. Anyway, that helmet was a telling metaphor: Go ahead and ask your questions, I'm wearing protection. From a winning team.
Or, as Jets safety Calvin Pryor III said:
The guy does anything for attention
