RotoExperts At the Park: Fantasy Football With Major Leaguers For Charity
Mets stars participated in Big League Impact Fantasy Football Charity Drafts: Their Draft Reviews, plus Doc Gooden on the Giants
One of the best things about Fantasy Sports is how it brings people together in unique ways. Through Big League Impact, a charitable organization launched by St. Louis Cardinals star Adam Wainright in 2013, Fantasy Sports has been making an actual difference in people’s lives around the globe. Every year, many Major League teams, including the Mets and Yankees, gather at special Fantasy Football drafts with fans, and all proceeds are donated to Big League Impact’s charitable causes. More information on BLI charitable initiatives are available here.
Recently at Citi Field, the Mets hosted their annual Big League Impact charity Fantasy Football draft, with all proceeds going to BLI initiatives and the Mets Foundation. For their donations, Mets fans drafted in Yahoo Sports leagues with event host Steven Matz, Cy Young contender Jacob deGrom, catcher Devin Mesoraco and relief pitcher Jerry Blevins, the defending champion of the Mets clubhouse Fantasy Football League. Mets legend Dwight Gooden also stopped in to observe the event as possible preparation for his own drafts. The incredible and distinctive power of Fantasy Sports was clearly evident, as the hobby of Fantasy Football not only brought fans together socially with their favorite players, the donations make a true difference in the lives of others. Matz and Mesoraco also considered the event great prep for their own upcoming drafts.
Matz reviewed his draft here. He aggressively went after Zach Ertz and Jimmy Garropolo, then nabbed value selections Cooper Kupp and Calvin Ridley.
Big Blue fan “Doc” Gooden spoke in-depth about his hopes for the 2018 New York Giants, including the impact of Saquon Barkley and a rebound year from Eli Manning. He also added his thoughts about LeBron James going to Los Angeles.
A Fantasy veteran who has played in BLI events in the past, Mesoraco went for a superstar TE early and then invested in two prominent 49ers.
