Ryan Seacrest Met Aaron Rodgers And Had No Idea Who He Was
It's always fascinating to get a peek into celebrity hierarchies. As regular, non-famous people, we tend to figure that all uber-rich celebrities know each other and exist in the same stratosphere.
With the exception of those who have achieved icon status - Oprah Winfrey, Barack Obama, Beyonce, Bill Gates and the like - it's easy to assume that all famous people are pretty much equal.
However Ryan Seacrest has recently proven that theory false.
On his nationally syndicated radio show on Tuesday, Seacrest told an embarrassing story about meeting celebrity athlete Aaron Rodgers and having absolutely no idea who he was.
As Seacrest tells it, he was attending a birthday part for Ellen Degeneres at the house she and her wife Portia de Rossi share. While grabbing a drink, a man standing nearby said hello. Here's Seacrest's version of the conversation that ensued:
Rodgers: What’s up, man? I’m a big fan.
Seacrest: Hey, thanks, I’m Ryan.
Rodgers: Oh, I’m Aaron.
Seacrest: Well, nice to meet you. … Well, what do you do?
Rodgers: I play football.
Seacrest: Oh, that’s cool. … Who do you play for?
Rodgers: I play for the Packers
When his co-host Sisanie called him out for not recognizing one the most famous athletes in the country, Seacrest responded that "he had a helmet on when I saw him the first time," as if that's the only way any of us have ever seen Rodgers.
Even more embarrassing is the fact that Seacrest is notably from Atlanta and also a fan of the Falcons, who beat Rodgers' Packers to advance to their first Super Bowl in almost twenty years.
"So it was a my bad. … He could tell I was being honest and I really didn’t put it all together but these guys look different when they’re not in uniform."
Rodgers, who has dated actress Olivia Munn for the last few years, is about as famous as any current athlete can be. Then again, as a beloved American radio and television host, Seacrest is one of the most recognizable people in the world; and his $55 million in earnings in 2016 put him at 30th on Forbes most recent list of the world's highest paid celebrities.
Seems like Seacrest is just a little out of Rodgers' league.
