San Diego Moving Companies Band Together, Say They Won’t Move Chargers To LA
They say that after a certain age, you don't call friends and ask them to help you move. You hire a moving company. But what if none of the moving companies will come?
"Hey Bob, this is Dean Spanos. What are you doing on Thursday? We're having a barbecue. Also could you help me load up a thousand cleats?" NBC San Diego:
"We were just sitting there thinking about the physical move of the Chargers,” said Ryan Charles, head of sales and marketing for www.HireAHelper.com. “We were thinking we would not want to be a part of that, having been born and raised here and being a lifelong Chargers fan.
“Other moving companies, our peers, might not want to, either,” said Charles, “and wouldn’t it be cool if we all banded together to say that we wouldn’t?”
So that's what they did. So far, 24 moving companies have signed up on Charles' site, and all pledge to refuse to help the Chargers move if they should call. That's a big chunk of the market there, including nearly all of the larger companies. So unless Spanos is thinking of hiring "Two Men and a Truck" (a real listing in San Diego) ("We'll make two trips!"), this may get troublesome.
And in case you're wondering, 12 Los Angeles moving companies have also joined the boycott.
There is also a Change.org petition demanding that the team, when they move, leave behind the Chargers name and logo -- as the Browns did when they moved from Cleveland to Baltimore in 1995 and became the Ravens.
