Seahawks’ Ricardo Lockette Suffers Terrifying Injury While Covering Punt
Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette was taken off the field strapped to a stretcher late in the 2nd quarter on Sunday afternoon after an absolutely horrific collision with the Cowboys' Jeff Heath left him motionless on the field. Lockette was on special teams covering a punt when Heath delivered what the referees determined to be an illegal blindside hit.
After the Seahawks medical staff attended to Lockette for about 10 minutes, never removing his helmet, he was seen giving the crowd the thumbs-up and pumping his fists; giving fans and onlookers a reason to cheer.
According to multiple reports in the third quarter, the Seahawks reported that Lockette had been diagnosed with a concussion but had full movement of all of his extremities, which should be a huge relief to literally everyone with a human heart. Unfortunately the Cowboys, who have had their fair share of "leadership" mishaps in the first eight weeks of the season, have a reputation for their warped and perhaps underdeveloped idea of sportsmanship.
The following video shows Lockette rendered immobile by the brutal hit, and then cuts to a shot of Bryant taunting a Seahawks player on the sideline in what is portrayed to be the aftermath of the injury, very clearly saying "that's what you fucking get."
It's hard to tell just from this video what exactly Bryant is referring to or what the under what context he said it, so no actual conclusions can be made solely from the video. But it certainly wouldn't be the first time that Bryant, or any other Cowboys player for that matter, behaved less than tactfully.
WARNING: This video does show the injury so please do not watch if you think the footage may disturb you.
As you can imagine, the internet reacted viscerally to what is ignorant poor sportsmanship at best and flat out cruel at worst. It's more than a little worriesome to think that Bryant could maintain anything even resembling that kind of attitude towards a player that isn't moving. Hopefully the video replay was just an unfortunate replay of two separate situations.
