Shit Mike Ditka Says: ‘I Don’t Want To Hear About This Hands-Up Crap’
As you know, I reserve opinion on all important social matters until I hear what Mike Ditka has to say.
Because why not? Ditka is your ultra-conservative grandpa, that cigar-chomping curmudgeon whose favorite room in the house is the garage, thinks that Archie Bunker was our finest role model and that every male under 40 should get a haircut, even Jesus Christ.
On the five St. Louis Rams' players who made the pregame 'Hands up, don't shoot" Ferguson protest gesture on Sunday? Ditka is "embarrassed" for them, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
"I don’t want to hear about this hands-up crap. That’s not what happened. I don’t know exactly what did happen, but I know that’s not what happened."
This is classic Ditka: 'I don't know what happened, but according to my belief system, the cops were right and black guys who don't play football can go to hell.'
More actual Ditka, on Ferguson rioters:
"The shame of it is, I’m not sure they care about Michael Brown or anything else. This was a reason to protest and to go out and loot. Is this the way to celebrate the memory of Michael Brown? Is this an excuse to be lawless? Somebody has to tell me that. I don’t understand it."
Of course some might argue that it was the police in Ferguson who were lawless, and the Michael Brown shooting was an example of endemic police brutality and coverup.
But what do I know? Why wouldn't I take the wise advice of a man who has suffered both a heart attack and a minor stroke who then partners with a large meat company to create Ditka Monster Sausages?
