Shocker: Rex Ryan Isn’t Happy That Shaun Ellis Is Going To The Patriots
While things seem to be going generally well for the New York Jets this offseason- they re-signed Santonio Holmes and beat out the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers for Plaxico Burress- the team suffered a set back today when defensive end Shaun Ellis decided against re-signing with the Jets, in favor of heading for the rival New England Patriots.
And never one to hold back how he feels, Jets coach Rex Ryan didn't take the loss particularly well, as he had some less than kind words for Ellis according to Manish Meta of the New York Daily News.
“The fact that he chose them . . . there’s no way I’m going to wish him well. There’s no chance of that.”
And while some of Ryan's ribbings on the Pats in the past have been good-natured, this doesn't seem like one of them. Ryan has shown the ability to handle Belichick's mind games and even Patriots blow-out victories, but having one of his players jump ship? That's a new one.
But regardless of what side of the Ryan-Belichick debate you reside on, there's no denying that this new wrinkle will add nothing but extra drama when the two teams meet up for the first time this season on October 9th, in what is quickly becoming the league's premiere rivalry.
