Should Roger Goodell Be Indicted For Perjury Over Ray Rice Scandal?
It seems Roger Goodell has committed a crime. Dave Zirin went on MSNBC on Friday and explained that with all the conflicting accounts of the Ray Rice scandal, Rooger Goodell could be indicted for perjury.
And thus the punisher would become the punished.
Someone's lying in the Ray Rice case, and it's probably Goodell. Yet, the worst tongue lashing Goodell got was from Bill Simmons, who called him a liar on his podcast, and of course Simmons got punished for hoping that Goodell would get punished -- or was it because he asked for it?
Regardless of the reason for Simmons' punishment, it is odd that Goodell has gotten through this unscathed. He may have lost respect of many Americans, but they're still watching football, so he's still got his salary.
So really, it's actually not a surprise that Goodell hasn't been punished. It's the NFL, which has monopolized one of the world's favorite sports. They operate under a near-autonomous government within the USA, where they ban legal drugs, apply punishments, and allow law-breaking activities never to see a court of law. And Goodell is the dictator of that autonomous government -- that's why he's not been indicted, and why he probably never will be.
Here's the incredulous rant:
Dave Zirin said:
"One: I'm stunned roger goodell is still employed as NFL commissioner. Two: I'm wondering why he's not being indicted for perjury right now, because in Ray Rice's arbitration case, Roger Goodell swore on a bible that Janay Rice said things to him that she denied, that Ray Rice denied, and that witnesses denied. and so the idea that Ray Rice would lie over a bible to a federal judge Barbara Jones, and he's still employed and there aren't perjury machinations happening against him surprises me. As for the Ravens, they should absolutely be sanctioned, be fined, be punished in some way, shape or form, for conduct unbecoming."
