Steve Johnson Wants You To Know He Wasn’t Blaming God Yesterday
There was quite the hullabaloo yesterday over a tweet sent by the Bills' Steve Johnson after he dropped a potential game-winning touchdown pass against the Steelers. Specifically, the consternation was over the fact that he appeared to implicate God in his drop. Today, though, Johnson took to Twitter again, to set the record straight.
Johnson's tweet from yesterday (which, to his credit, he's left up) reads:
I PRAISE YOU 24/7!!!!!! AND THIS HOW YOU DO ME!!!!! YOU EXPECT ME TO LEARN FROM THIS??? HOW???!!! ILL NEVER FORGET THIS!! EVER!!! THX THO...
Today, his outlook was much more positive:
I learned A lot Within 24hrs. Saw Both Sides.(Ups&Dwns) I AM HAPPY & THANKFUL 4 YESTERDAY! w/out Sunday iWldnt have grew closer w/The Lord!!
Well, that answers any questions as to whether his faith would be permanently shaken. And he says the uproar was really a misunderstanding:
And No I Did Not Blame God People! Seriously??!? CMon! I Simply Cried Out And Asked Why? Jus Like yal did wen sumthin went wrong n ur life!
In fairness to those who saw it another way, Johnson exclaiming "THIS HOW YOU DO ME!!!!!" does make it sound like he saw the role of a higher power pretty directly at play. But he sounds at peace with the heartbreaking loss now, so no use getting too worked up:
Spoke To Friends Fam Teammates and Most Importantly I Spoke With My Wife. I Honestly Believe Evrything Happens For A Reason! Everything!
S/O To My Real Friends And Fanollowers! Also Major S/O To Them Bills Fans! I Don't Play For Myself and AnyOne who know ME knows That!
Yes, he'll be fine. And while his tweet yesterday was definitely worth writing about (it was so raw and such a drastic change from the usual mentions of God in a sports context), it looks like we can take anything he says in the heat of the moment from here on out with a grain of salt.
Oh, and if he meant to coin the term "Fanollowers," as he did in that last tweet...we whole-heartedly approve.
