Steve Young Dropping Truth: Tells PTI Hosts He Would ‘Put Whiny Receivers On Ice’
Steve Young reached his all-time Pardon The Interruption low earlier this week when he attempted to dab during his live remote interview. But just a couple of days later he achieved what may have been his all-time high.
When questioned on today's PTI by Michael Wilbon on what he would have done if Dez Bryant, or any receiver, complained about not getting enough passes thrown his way, Young dropped a cargo container of truth.
"You got to ice them!" Young said. "The quarterback is the captain out there. If you want to win, you can't get that done with everyone complaining all the time. What I did was put them on ice. If a receiver is whining, guess what? I suddenly have trouble seeing you on the field. You don't get the ball.
"Then if you come to me at halftime and say 'I'm sorry,' then I'll say 'OK, you through? Now maybe I can see you again. I was having trouble before.' Now you're no longer on ice."
Tony Kornheiser was skeptical: "But you had Jerry Rice and John Taylor. You mean to say that you would do that to Jerry Rice?"
Young: "Yes. We all have our roles. I couldn't complain to Rice about receiving, either. Rice would say to me: 'You know Steve, I could have you replaced.' "
Young has been on fire lately, ever since rumors surfaced that he might be interested in the head coaching job at BYU. Coincidence, I'm sure.
