STUPIDITY: Chip Kelly Reportedly Called LeSean McCoy, Got Hung Up On
According to a report from Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the public rift driven between Bills running back LeSean McCoy and his former coach Chip Kelly is not going to end any time soon, since McCoy recently hung up on Kelly. Which leads me to the question: who on god's beautiful green earth gives a flying shit?
McCoy told the media last week that he had nothing to say to the Eagles head coach, explaining that "he can't call me. He can't shake my hand, there's nothing he can do with me." Apparently Kelly tried to call McCoy on Tuesday, because of course he did.
Make sense. Why let bygones be bygones and focus on your incredibly flawed football team when you could waste time trying to make amends with a guy that all but said he'd like to push you over the side of the Spirit of Philadelphia and watch you float off into the abyss?
According to sources with knowledge of the call, McCoy answered when he didn't recognize the number. As soon as Kelly identified himself, McCoy hung up on him. On Wednesday, McCoy said he stood by the offseason comments he made about Kelly's not respecting stars and getting rid of all the "good black players" after he was traded to the Bills in exchange for lineback Kiko Alonso. Star wide receiver DeSean Jackson was also sent packing to the Washington Redskins, and Jeremy Maclin ended up signing with the Chiefs.
I personally find nothing more obnoxious than two terrible teams engaged in manufactured drama that keeps them in the headlines. Chip Kelly's stint in Philadelphia has been a failure on the whole. The Eagles entered Sunday's game against the Bills at 5-7, so at best they will wrap up Week 14 at 6-7 in arguably the worst division in the NFL. Meanwhile the Bills have been one of the least successful franchises in American sports over the last twenty years and are currently in third place in the AFC East. I don't care about any sad, unnecessary melodrama that either one of these people has with each other off the field.
If this were a pissing contest between Cam Newton and Gary Kubiak, then I'd read the shit out of that. Two people who are currently excelling at their extremely high paid professions that happen to hate eachother? Tell me more! They could end up playing each other in the Super Bowl!
But two people who are barely managing to escape the clutches of mediocrity while they continue to rake in gajillions? Yeah, no thanks. McCoy is perfectly entitled to hate Kelly; I know I would if I were him. And Kelly can try to mend fences if he wants, although I fail to see where the value in that lies. I just don't happen to care either way at all; and honestly, neither should anyone else.
Can we be done with this now, please?
